Introduction to Keswick Scruffs

The last Keswick Scruffs Fun Dog Show was held in 2019 and was a huge success, a fabulous day was had by all. Following an enforced sabbatical for a couple of years, we are pleased to announce that Keswick Scruffs is back and was originally scheduled to be held on SUNDAY 26th June 2022. However due to the weather forecast of strong winds we have reluctantly made the decision to postpone the show.

Keswick Scruffs 2022 will now be held Sunday 17th JULY 2022. Registration tent opens at 10.00am and entry into the show field is FREE!

Keswick Scruffs Fun Dog Show is to celebrate that Keswick has won the Kennel Club’s most dog friendly town in the UK 5 times! The show is brought to you by Keswick Town Council and Podgy Paws Pet Shop. To find out all the latest news join us on Facebook and Instagram.

Entry into the show field is free. We pre sell half the class places for the two weeks prior to the show at Podgy Paws, sorry we cannot take online or telephone entries. The remaining places are sold on the day on a first come, first served basis. CASH ONLY please as we don’t have a card machine at the show field.

Below is the timetable for 2022. Entry is £3 per class (CASH ONLY, we don’t have a card machine). Half the class entries are pre-sold from 13th June at Podgy Paws, the remaining places are sold on the day on a first come, first served basis at the Registration Tent which opens at 10am.

What's on

  • Show Opens! On-the-day entries will be taken all day on a strictly first come, first served basis. If you have pre registered at Podgy Paws pet shop before the event you need to collect your entry stickers from the Registration tent on the day. Please ensure you are at the correct ring and ready for your class 10 minutes before hand. There are two rings - Ring A and Ring B.
10.00 to 11.00
  • Enjoy the atmosphere and shopping around the ring! There are 36 trade stalls at this years show!
11am to 12.15pm
  • Class 1A - Best Veteran Dog (over 10 years old)
  • Class 1B - Best Female Puppy (bet 3 and 12 months old)
  • Class 2A - Best Male Puppy (bet 3 and 12 months old)
  • Class 2B - Best Dog and Child
  • Class 3A - Most Handsome Dog - Pedigree
  • Dogtathlon / Obstacle course (Shortest time wins, one run per entry fee. Entry on the day)

  • Class 3B - Cutest Bitch - Pedigree
  • Class 4A - Best Trick
  • Class 4B - Waggiest Tail
  • Class 5A - Best Fancy Dress

  • Class 6A - Best Biscuit Catcher
  • Class 6B - Most Appealing Eyebrows
  • Class 7A - Most Handsome Dog - Crossbreed
  • Class 7B - Cutest Bitch - Crossbreed

  • Keswick Scruffs Best in Show 2022 chosen from all the category winners (all categories winners from the classes - excluding the Dogtathalon and Dachshund Race). The Best in Show will win the ‘Harry Winter Memorial Trophy’. The Best in Show is sponsored by Podgy Paws Pet Shop of Keswick in association with our sister business and consists of Hurtta dog harness, lead, collar, dog coat and cooling vest for the Best in Show winner to the value of £200.

Below are the classes for 2022. There will be 4 rosettes awarded per class. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. There is also the much coveted ‘Wooden Bone’ award. The red rosette and wooden bone winners will win the sponsors prizes with the red rosette winner having first choice.

Reasonable precautions have been made by the organisers to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved with this event. Please remember that you are responsible at all times for the behaviour and the safety of your children and your dogs. You should also follow any instructions given during the event by the organisers and their delegated officials.

    PRE-REGISTRATION - Open on Monday 13th June 2022.

    Approximately half of the places can be entered before the day at Podgy Paws Pet Shop, Keswick. Pre entry can only be done by going into the shop, unfortunately no entries can be taken over the phone or online. Cost of entry is £3 per class and this is non-refundable. Your stickers, which are proof of entry into the class on the day, will be ready for you to collect at the registration tent on the morning of Keswick Scruffs.


    A number of entries will be held back for those who wish to enter on the day. It is strictly on a first come first served basis. Registration opens at 10.00am. Cost of entry is £3 per class which is non-refundable. CASH ONLY please as we don’t have a card machine at the show field.


    • Rosettes awarded 1st to 4th place for every class.
    • Class winner wins their choice of sponsors prize for that class. No cash alternative.
    • Class winner of the ‘Wooden Bone’ award wins the second sponsors prize for that class. No cash alternative.
    • Overall scruffs winner, selected from the class winners (excluding the dogthalon & Dachsund race winners), will win the Harry Winter Memorial Trophy, Hurtta Dog Apparel and the ‘Best in Show’ rosette … plus the prestige of being Keswick Scruffs overall winner!!
    • Runner up will receive ‘Reserve Best in Show’ rosette.
    • Judges decision is final.


    All dogs to be kept on a lead and under control at all times. Any dog deemed to be out of control or of risk to others will be asked to leave the show ground.

    Please be respectful of the show venue and always clear up after your dog.

    Where classes are age-specific (e.g. Puppy, Veteran etc), the specified ranges must be adhered to.

    Please do not bring bitches in season to the show.

    Children must be kept under control and supervised by an adult at all times. Please ensure children don’t approach dogs without permission.

    Before attempting to stroke any dog, always ask the owner’s permission, and respect their response. If the owner says it’s OK, approach the dog slowly and gently - avoid sudden, unexpected movements, and never run or ride bicycles/scooters/skateboards etc, or shout or scream in the vicinity of dogs.

    Please make sure that no dog is brought to any show which has contracted or has been knowingly exposed to any infectious or contagious disease during the 21 days prior to the show, or is suffering from a condition which adversely affects its health or welfare.


    Your dog is vulnerable and AT RISK if left in a vehicle in high temperatures and even on days considered as slightly warm. Please take care of your dog.

    When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.


    The show has been organised by a group of volunteers. This will be our seventh Fun Dog Show for Keswick. We hope all people and dogs have fun! We will welcome constructive feed back after the show and thank everyone for supporting Keswick Scruffs!

By Bus

The main bus stop/station area in Keswick is next to Booths supermarket. From there walk towards Podgy Paws, right at the mini roundabout, then cross the road and go up Stanger Street to the end. Turn right and go over the metal foot bridge over the river into Fitz Park.

By Car

The following are some of the car parks which are handy for Fitz Park - Football Club in the Hospital Field (Crosthwaite Road, near the hospital), Pencil Museum (Southey Industrial Estate CA12 5NG), Rawnsley Centre (Main Street, CA12 5NP), Keswick Rugby Club. If parking at Pencil Museum, Rawnsley Centre or Rugby Club, walk towards town centre, turn first left onto Stanger Street, walk up to the top and turn right then cross the foot bridge over the river and into Fitz Park.

Fitz Park is in the centre of Keswick, near the Leisure Pool and the Keswick Country House Hotel. Parking on the road side next to the park is a disk area and restricted to 1 hour. Fitz Park is next to a river and there is an access point to the water where dogs can cool down if necessary.
